People of all ages experience life transitions.
Some transitions happen because a person is living life.
Life transitions are full of change – some good and some challenging.
Raising a family is full of transitions.
Take a young woman who marries and, after a while, has children. She may have been in the workforce but decided to stay home from full-time employment to raise her children; her husband works outside the home to support the family.
Then as years go by, the children grow, and there are more transitions from little ones to having school-aged children. She becomes a taxi driver along with other duties transporting her children from school to sports practice and events, parties, dance lessons, or some other activity.
Before she knows it, the kids are now teens and off in cars. What a transition that is. Life 360 can help at times, but she understands that her relationship with the children has changed again. Then before she knows it, the teens graduate high school and are out of the house.
What about after the kids are gone?
That same woman finds herself in an empty home and wants to return to work.
Work situations have changed, and she needs additional training to land that job.
Wow! Things move fast. She now finds herself as a grandmother with a different role than ever.
Many now become two again.
Her relationship with her husband is going well; however, it constantly changes.
Life moves forward, she finds herself with a few health problems, and working every day seems complicated.
Her husband wants to retire and travel. Is that going to be fun? It could be. But he is talking about selling their home and living in a travel trailer. What a change that would be. She isn’t sure she wants to eliminate all her keepsakes. What will she do about that?
Now after a few orthopedic surgeries, she can’t see herself climbing in and out of a truck at her age.
And then, there is only one.
Then she experiences an alarming occurrence – her husband passes away.
Now what will she do? Where will she live? How will she support herself? These questions seem so overwhelming. She needs help.
Plenty of situations lead to problems over the years as life’s changes occur. She may have sought therapy through the years to help her transition from one phase to another.
If she did, she would have developed excellent coping skills. But at any stage along the way, she may have suffered without the support of a therapist.
Therapy makes transitions less challenging.
