EMDR

271701236Trauma has consequences.

Emotional or psychological trauma has many causes. The travesty of war experienced by military personnel and civilians is one primary source of trauma. Abuse as a child or adult, violence, car accidents, or other life-threatening events are traumatic experiences.

Other sources of trauma that can create distress may involve recovery from medical treatment, loss of a loved one, or divorce.

Those experiences can create long-lasting emotional upheaval; in many cases, that traumatic experience can become triggered by current events not directly related to the previous traumatic event. As a result, you can live in constant fear of a similar event happening again.

Trauma has physical and emotional consequences – resulting in anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, or reliance on substances to lessen the pain. Relationships suffer, and moving forward becomes more difficult.

Processing trauma alone is not easy.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) has been used for over 30 years to help people heal from the onslaught of emotions caused by traumatic experiences. This approach enables a person to process the negative experience, allowing them to put it in the past while replacing it with something more positive.

While focusing on the negative memory, eye movements, and bilateral stimulation by tapping or various tones, you can begin to reduce the traumatic memory and replace it with something positive.

Numerous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of EMDR, which seems to work faster than other approaches. In most cases, recovery occurs much quicker and has a high success rate for those experiencing PTSD.

Through EMDR, you can learn to get past that part of your brain that keeps you stuck because of the traumatic experience.

I am fully trained to help Individuals by using EMDR to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress of disturbing life experiences. Unlike other therapies, EMDR does not require speaking or doing homework, which can require more time. EMDR is about transforming and reprocessing those memories to allow you to become unstuck.

In addition to traditional EMDR, I use the Flash method, which helps the brain deal with disturbing memories. My clients have been pleased with the results of this method, too. Several have found relief from severe bouts of anxiety that have inhibited their ability to succeed in educational settings.

As a natural outcome of the EMDR therapeutic process, your thoughts, feelings, and behavior can become robust indicators of emotional health and resolution.

Don’t continue to suffer from those traumatic experiences. Together, we can help you reprocess the past in a way that allows you to live your current and future life to the fullest.
